Description: This very straight woodpecker-hole ridden tree is surrounded by kudzu. Located on the far west side of the park the butternut is in its proper habitat being located on a slope.

Phenology: All leaves on this tree are green
Bark: This butternut is riddled with woodpecker holes that go horizontally around the tree. The bark is light gray

Fruit: The butternut contains oblong shaped, greenish-yellow nuts that expel a yellow dye when punctured
Distinguishing marks: This tree is covered with holes that run horizontally around the tree
Invasive vines: Kudzu
