An ecological inventory of the Frank Wilson Park located in Martinsville, Virginia
About The Frank Wilson Park Tree Inventory
As part of the Martinsville Henry Community Nature Initiative our purpose is to create more opportunities for outdoor free time activities for the community. In collaboration with the Virginia Museum of Natural History we are conducting an ecological inventory of the Frank Wilson Park located in Martinsville, Virginia. It is our goal for this inventory to be a working nature and outdoor educational tool to involve community adults and children.
This inventory is also a great way student groups, scout troops, Master Naturalists, and Master Gardeners, to name a few, to earn volunteer service hours.
"The J. Frank Wilson Memorial Park is a lovely place to work, rest or play. The smell of fresh air and the sounds of people enjoying life are two ingredients guaranteed to relieve the stress of the day.Wilson Park has a number of amenities to be enjoyed by every member of the family. There's a tennis court available to play a game or to brush up on your skills. The basketball court is the place to be for that more strenuous workout. Children will absolutely love the playground with swings, a merry-go-round, spring animal rockers and square climbers. Parents be warned, once the children get started, it's hard to tear them away. For a more relaxed visit to the park, rest on a park bench while you read a book or work a crossword puzzle. Restrooms are on site as well as picnic shelters available for parties or other social gatherings." (City of Martinsville Leasure Services)
